Appraise

Explain

Coming soon

The second half of Appraise. Detect trains you to doubt the AI’s explanations. Explain trains you to make your own explanations hold up.

How it will work

  1. Write or paste your own codeSomething you wrote, not something the AI wrote for you.
  2. Explain it in your own words firstWhat it does and why, before the AI sees anything.
  3. Get pointed at the vague partsThe AI doesn't grade or fix it. It shows you which sentence was hand-wavy or which step you skipped, and asks one question.
  4. Revise, then compareYour first and second drafts sit side by side, so you can see exactly what got clearer.

The AI only says things you can check

In Detect, the AI makes claims about code, and you have to verify them. In Explain, it only comments on your own sentences, and you’re the authority on those: you can check any comment by rereading what you wrote. If your explanation already holds up, it says so and leaves it there.

Nothing here is graded

Explain isn’t an assessment, so there’s nothing to gain from pasting in an explanation someone else wrote. The questions are about your code specifically, and the value is in what changes between your drafts.
